CORPUS CHRISTI - About 1,030 Corpus Christi residents are without power tonight after a truck slammed into a utility pole on the corner of Morgan and 18th St. With active wires hanging from the broken pole, police struggled to keep gawkers away from the scene.
One customer without power, Alvaro Dominguez said, "Everything was black for blocks down so we just started walking to try to find out and we saw all the police here on Morgan Sreet and found out that the accident was right here in front of us."
Officials say they're not sure what caused the male driver to lose control but after the accident, he apparently got out of his truck and took off running. Some citizens tackled him until police were able to arrive. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. As for those customers without power, AEP expects to restore power by about 2:30 Monday morning.
