CORPUS CHRISTI - A chemical spill at Building 8 of the Corpus Christi Army Depot prompted a precautionary shelter in place order for several buildings at the depot. There is no evacuation order in place for NAS Corpus Christi and officials advise the public is not in danger.
Corpus Christi Army Depot has advised 2nd shift Components Production employees not to report to work until 4:00pm as crews continue to deal with the spill. Aircraft Production 2nd Shift employees are instructed to report for work at their normal time.
CCAD spokesman Jose Rodriguez says a truck was moving an unknown type of chemical when a small amount of it was spilled.
Naval Air Station Corpus Christi firefighters immediately came to the scene and neutralized the chemical, according to Rodriguez.
Paramedics on the scanner can be heard discussing a 240 gallon spill of nitric or sulfuric acid. They're currently checking for any patients that may need to be treated, but there are no reports of injuries.
