DALLAS (AP) - Northwest Texans woke up to up to 5 inches of snow on the ground after an arctic air blast across the state.

The National Weather Service reports that most of northern and northwestern Texas, from the South Plains to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, received just a light dusting of snow. There were isolated reports of 2 to 5 inches in the rolling plains of West Texas, from Abilene to Wichita Falls and the Red River.

Temperatures dipped into the teens in parts of the Panhandle.

Freezing weather has reached parts of Texas as strong winds cut electricity to about 3,000 homes and businesses in Austin. Austin Energy reports all but a handful of customers had power restored midday Monday.
