WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Universal All Stars just want to play baseball. It's been an incredible experience that they will never forget, and the boys have yet to play a ballgame in Williamsport, PA.
Team bats, batting gloves, cleats, uniforms, media interviews, parades -- hanging out with teams from Japan, Australia and Latin America -- those are just some of the incredible moments Universal has experienced in their first few days at the Little League World Series. And there are plenty more to come.
As second baseman RJ Cortez put it: "excited, pumped up, ready for the game tomorrow."
The boys are ready to take on Samammish, WA (the Northwest representative) in the first game of the United States bracket.
"We're nervous and excited because it's the first game of the United States," left fielder Juan Jasso said.
Coach Randy Ramirez has been preaching to the kids all week -- one game at a time -- and it's just baseball. The kids are relaying that same message.
"Just play your heart out from first pitch to last pitch," third baseman Jesus Ortiz said. "We're trying to win our first game and not worry about any other games, just that one."
That one -- is set for Thursday at 2pm central time against the Northwest. Universal (Southwest) will play again on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the outcome of game one.
