CORPUS CHRISTI- The Corpus Christi Bayfront was packed with marchers Wednesday night who gathered to commemorate an iconic event in the struggle for civil rights.
The local chapter of the NAACP organized a march and rally titled "United We Stand".
Hundreds of participants gathered at Ocean Drive and Elizabeth for a march toward Cole Park.
At Cole Park they heard speeches about the gains made in civil rights since the 1963 March on Washington that featured Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
Participants were also reminded of the struggle that remains.
They were encouraged to register to vote so they can make a difference in the fight for equal rights.
