Two South Texas Police Officers Shot

SELMA, Texas (AP) - Two San Antonio-area police officers and a suspect have been shot in an exchange of gunfire during a domestic disturbance call.

A spokesman for the city of Selma said Friday that both officers suffered wounds not believed to be life-threatening. City administrator Ken Roberts says the pair, identified only as Officer Kierum and Corporal Balderamas, were hospitalized in San Antonio in critical but stable condition.

Roberts had no information on the suspect's medical condition. Jessie Hernandez Junior faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant.

Roberts says the officers Thursday night answered a 911 call about a disturbance outside the home of the suspect's stepfather. Investigators say Hernandez opened fire on the officers. One officer returned fire - striking Hernandez twice.
