ROBSTOWN - Everyone escaped without injury from fires that consumed 2 homes along West Avenue E in Robstown this afternoon. The homes were almost burned to the ground.

Robstown firefighters called for more manpower from the Annaville Volunteer Fire Department as they struggled to keep the flames from spreading further down the block due to high winds.

At one point, firefighters thought four homes were on fire. There's no word on what started the fires.

A witness says a small fire started between two homes so he told a relative to called 911. he along swith authorities evacuated 10 homes.

Fire crews did rescue three puppies from one of the homes. There are several animals running loose in the area. We're not sure if the animals always run free or got out of the homes that burned.

As of 7 p.m., firefighters across the Coastal Bend are still recieving calls about grass fires and arcing power lines as the strong winds persist. The winds are expected to die down this evening.
