CORPUS CHRISTI - A low speed chase involving a man who refused to pull over for a police officer ended at Staples and Laredo this morning when the officer smashed the driver's side window to force the man to stop.
It's believed the driver was involved in a hit and run crash with an 18-wheeler while heading the wrong way on Interstate 37. The driver turned off onto Mesquite, but ignored the officer's commands. He did obey the speed limit and stop signs.
After the officer stopped the pursuit by smashing the window, paramedics were called to check on the driver as he was not responding to verbal commands. A passenger in the car is also in custody.
Police are looking at charges of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest against the driver.
