CORPUS CHRISTI -- The police department's dive team spent the morning helping to pull a truck out of the Packery Channel off Zahn Road.
The driver and his passenger made it out with just some bumps and bruises.
The truck wasn't so lucky.
You could see the water damage as it was towed out of the Channel.
Police say they don't know how fast the man was driving, but say it had to be pretty fast
because he managed to plow over the jetties.
One officer on the scene said, "The reason the speed limit is 15 MPH, is the driving is bad. The sand is loose."
There's also no lighting on the beach.
Today's accident happened around 3:30 this morning and the driver says he didn't see the jetties.
A similar accident happened last 4th of July with an SUV.
Reporter Melissa Schroeder asked City Traffic Engineer Charlie Cardenas, "If there was more lighting, do you think it could prevent accidents?"
He said, "In my opinion, no. You could light this up like a runway and someone going fast could still have the potential to have the same kind of accident."
Police say trucks run over the jetties, typically because a driver doesn't pay attention or speeds on the beach.
But since this happened twice in the past six months, the traffic engineer says the city will look into it.
One option would be to put up reflective dead end signs on the jetties.
Cardenas said, "And that by the way, that is a very cheap option. It doesn't cost that much to put up signs and things like that."
