SAN DIEGO - Jim Wells County investigators claim three suspects accused of vandalizing the San Diego Cemetery said they were upset their Ouija board didn't work, so they decided to trash the gravesites.
Authorities picked up 28-year-old Rita Alaniz, 27-year-old Chris Fuentes, and 18-year-old Emilio Pena starting Monday night.
They're charged with criminal mischief for damaging hundreds of headstones and vases.
Investigators tell us during their interview with Alaniz she implicated the other two suspects. A search of a suspect's car turned up the Ouija board.
Families came to the cemetery on Sunday morning to find extensive damage across the site. The cleanup got underway in earnest on Monday with backhoes called in to help upright knocked over headstones and statues.
Many families used glue to put the grave markers back together. It's not clear how many families will need to totally replace headstones and other items.
