Trio Recognized for Bravery Following Home Explosion

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Corpus Christi Fire Department recognized three people who braved the flames from a large natural gas explosion to save people from their homes last month.

Omar Zitooni, Mike Obenhakus and Kimberly Rodriguez were at a nearby restaurant when they heard the large explosion on Holmes Drive. They rushed over and helped to rescue people, including one of the two men who were seriously injured.

Cindy Conner told the trio, "My son also wanted me to make sure that they know he was grateful for pulling him out. I can't tell you what it means to know what they did to save his life."

Ryan Conner and Bob Farley were at the home when it exploded. Farley died while being treated at a burn unit in San Antonio. Conner is back home with his family recovering from his injuries.

The explosion destroyed three homes and damaged more than a dozen others.
