CORPUS CHRISTI - Today dozens of volunteers over at the Boys and Girls Club got ready for one of the busiest days of the year: Thanksgiving.

"When I come here for the Boys and Girls Club," said volunteer, Meredith Jordan, "it's something that I enjoy doing and as long as I have the strength and the health we will continue to do that."

Jordan has been helping out with this Thanksgiving feast for over a dozen years; although there's just one day nationally dedicated toward giving thanks, it's a reminder, to him, how to live each day.

"This day is a special day that we call Thanksgiving," Jordan said. "My days of thanksgiving are every day of the year."

Joe Salem started the dinner 69 years ago. Although he passed away, the Salem family continues to put on the feast for those who may not get a turkey dinner.

Chris Salem-Carr said, "It's going to be just great! It's going to be a big party. Everybody is going to love it."

People filed in one-by-one. Among them was Manuel Montalvo; he's been attending the Salem Thanksgiving Dinner for seven years, now, and said it's not just about the meal but the people who care.

"For us people that cannot afford a turkey, or something to cook at the house, or we decide it's a lot easier to come over here," Montalvo said, "we give thanks to everybody who comes here and thanks to the people that work and everything. They do this for us."

Jordan said, "It's just a matter of lending a hand out to someone to help them to say thanks for what we do and what we're thankful for."
