Tornado Warning for San Patricio and Aransas Counties

CORPUS CHRISTI - The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a tornado warning for southwestern Aransas County and southeastern San Patricio County in south texas until 4:45 pm.

At 3:41 p.m. National Weather Service meteorologists have detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Gregory, or 6 miles northeast of Portland, moving east at 10 mph.

Locations impacted include Ingleside, Ingleside on the Bay, Aransas Pass, and Palm Harbor.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows. If in mobile homes or vehicles, evacuate them and get inside a substantial shelter. If no shelter is available, lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.

There's also a flash flood warning in effect for Nueces County until 6pm.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
