CORPUS CHRISTI - A fire this afternoon, at Port and Baldwin, could be seen for miles.
It started just after the lunch hour at a tire shop. Emergency crews are still at the scene battling the blaze. It appears that a pile of tires is burning, along with some brush and grass in a nearby lot.
The first crews that arrived on the scene described the area as having zero visibility. Streets surrounding the fire were immediately shut down. In this picture, posted on the KZTV Facebook page by Denise Vargas, you can see how thick the smoke was.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
