CORPUS CHRISTI - A 21-year-old renter faces charges for the burglary of the CASA building earlier this week, based on a tip.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, assist abused and neglected children who require legal representation on their behalf.
It was early Monday morning when an alarm call went out for the CASA building on Prescott Street. The management came in to find someone had messed with the power, but did not get inside the building, so they left.
A few hours later, the arrived to find the building ransacked and several items missing.
The next day a woman called police saying she found a woman's wallet and prescription bottles that belong to someone from CASA. She found all that out by getting in touch with the owner of the wallet.
Police recovered a stolen laptop and other electronic devices in the rented room on Cloyde Street. Officers were able to arrest 21-year-old Andrew Leo Pena yesterday afternoon when they were called to deal with a disturbance at his apartment.
He was jailed for violating his probation on a previous burglary charge. It wasn't until today that a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with the CASA burglary.
