PORT ARANSAS - It's been a long and somewhat boring wait for the Port Aransas boy's basketball team, who hasn't seen a challenge of any kind since December. The Marlins rolled through district outscoring their opponents by an average of over 50 points per game, meaning their starters spent the majority of those games on the bench.
"This team has been working hard all year and we played the big tournaments over Thanksgiving and Christmas so we'll be ready," said Guard Tyler Pate.
The guys even earned themselves a first round bye after winning District, so it's been over a week since they last played a real meaningful game. Their postseason will begin on Thursday against Falls City in Beeville.
The Marlins reached the Region Tournament in 2012, but came up short of reaching the State Tournament.
"Since last year we had a bad taste in our mouth and we have just been practicing hard and getting ready for those better teams in the playoffs," said Guard Chase Chambers.
