CORPUS CHRISTI -- Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff firefighters responded to three brush fires that sparked around 11 Tuesday morning near Knickerbocker and Waldron. Charles Anderson, a neighbor living by the blazes saw the field burn.

"The one by the power lines didn't seem that big, but the other one, you could start seeing the flames shooting up from it," Anderson said.

Anderson lives just a few feet away from where the flames were and he could see the blazes from his balcony.

"We saw a lot of smoke coming out, a lot of white smoke," he said

Anderson pointed out the specific areas where the brush was burning and clouds of smoke were rising.

"You can see where the poles are, right there the power lines, that's where the smoke was coming from," Anderson said.

Fire officials believe the flames sparked near two power pole and the wind blew the heat up toward the thick layer of brush in the open field.

Anderson said, the wind helped steer the flames away from his home and luckily all three fires were on the other side of a ditch that separated the field from the neighborhood.

"We have the ditch over here, that's full of water and the wind was blowing that way," he said.

He said, fire crews were on site quickly and even called in brush control trucks to help tame the flames.

"We just saw all the fire going, all the firemen were out, to me it looked like a quick response, they were able to put it out relatively quickly," Anderson said.

Fire officials said, they put out two of the three fires within 30 minutes of the call. As for the smaller of the three, firefighters said, a resident simply put it out with a garden hose.

AEP crews were out Tuesday afternoon to check on any damage done. Officials said, no one lost power and no one was injured.
