CORPUS CHRISTI -- The trial of a former Orange Grove police officer accused of stealing thousands of dollars in lawn equipment has been postponed after he was hospitalized.
Daniel Jaramillo Jr., 34, is accused of writing nearly $4,000 in bad checks for lawn equipment at Gulf Tractor Company in Corpus Christi in November 2011.
Jaramillo initially pleaded guilty to the felony theft charges, but State District Judge Missy Medary scheduled a trial after Jaramillo said he could not come up with the money to repay the tractor company as part of a proposed plea deal.
Jaramillo is due back in court Sept. 19, court officials said. His trial is expected to start Sept. 23.
