'The Wrath' Aimed at Stopping Littering

CORPUS CHRISTI - The city is spending nearly $50,000 on an anti-littering campaign. Maybe you've seen the billboard along S.P.I.D. that references "The Wrath."

It is the city's first leg of a campaign to remind people about the negative and costly impact of littering.

"The Wrath is the 'shock and awe' to get your attention. We're measuring this campaign. We just completed a 300 (home) phone survey and we learned that 77 percent of the residents in Corpus Christi were not aware of a litter ordinance," says Solid Waste Director Lawrence Mikolajczyk.

Part of the campaign will include handing out more tickets. The city's latest effort to keep the community clean will continue at least through next April.
