FLOUR BLUFF - Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Kurth had his entire life ahead of him. At 26, he was already an accomplished military veteran, he married his high school sweetheart and he was about to become a father.
Kurth, who served two tours of duty in Iraq, was killed in a motorcycle accident near Killeen Jan. 16. State troopers say he lost control of his motorcycle while taking a curve. Kurth was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
"He would have been an outstanding father to his daughter Lorelai," said his father James Kurth, fighting back tears, "and we know he's going to be looking down on all of us."
After graduating from Flour Bluff High School in 2004, Kurth followed after his brothers and joined the Army where he worked as an electronic warfare specialist.
His widow, Jennifer, is expecting a baby girl in two weeks.
Kurth will be buried with full military honors Saturday during a service at Seaside Memorial Park.
