CORPUS CHRISTI -It's the nightmare before Christmas for anyone planning on heading to the malls or shopping centers over on SPID. Today there has been bumper-to-bumper traffic; something that will likely get worse this weekend.

Despite the hassles, shoppers are hitting the stores. Year after year people who try to get holiday shopping out of the way end up rushing to the mall for that last-minute gift. Out at the La Palmera Mall, tonight, there were plenty of people doing just that.

"I'm going to meet up with my girlfriend," said Max Robledo. "She's in there. I'm going to help her out."

Robledo's buddy, Arthur Boyd, said he wasn't there to buy gifts, but to sell them. "Yeah. I'm going to sell," he said, "so I can get my Christmas present for like half off."

With a lot of last minute shoppers hitting the mall also comes a lot of traffic.

"Staples was the worst one," said Roland Gonzalez, "I had to come all the way through Airline, exit and come through here McArdle and try to see if I can find a parking."

"I was out there like about 20 minutes just stuck in one place bumper to bumper," said Robledo.

CCPD Lieutenant Tim Brown said they have worked at least 15 accidents Friday afternoon alone.

"This time of year traffic out here is just atrocious and everyone's just trying to do their Christmas shopping," Brown said.

One accident involved five cars and nine people. Police say a driver going too fast caused the crash. Surprisingly, no one was hurt but it blocked off traffic along SPID for about an hour. Although this joyous time of year is also one of the most hectic times of the year, everyone's in agreement that patience is definitely a virtue.

"Just relax," Robledo said, "Take it easy. We got time."
