BRYAN, Texas (AP) - Attorneys for a Texas convicted killer say he had nothing to do with the 2007 death of a corrections officer in Huntsville during an escape attempt.

Lawyers for John Falk on Monday blamed the death on the actions of a fellow inmate. Falk faces a capital murder charge and is on trial in Bryan.

Susan Canfield was killed as Falk and fellow prisoner Jerry Martin broke away from an inmate work crew outside the Wynne Unit.

Martin jumped into a truck and rammed it into Canfield, who was on horseback. The horse threw her and she died of a head injury.

An attorney for Falk told jurors, during opening statements, that her client didn't help Martin.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Falk. Martin already is on death row.
