LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A former Texas Tech student who failed to show up for prison to serve 15 years for a fatality alcohol-related wreck has been captured in Houston.
Lubbock police say 23-year-old Jeena Roberts of The Woodlands was caught Monday. She'll face a bail jumping charge.
A tip helped lead to Roberts, who in late November pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault over a 2010 accident. A vehicle driven by Roberts rear-ended an SUV in Lubbock. The crash killed one SUV passenger, 54-year-old Linda Smaltz, and critically injured another.
The plea deal meant 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter and eight years for assault, to be served concurrently. Roberts was ordered to report to prison Jan. 7.
A judge added the bail jumping charge when Roberts didn't show up.
