HUNTSVILLE - A man convicted of killing his former girlfriend at her Bryan apartment by throwing gasoline on her and setting her on fire is set for execution in Huntsville.
Carl Blue faces lethal injection Thursday evening for the September 1994 death of 38-year-old Carmen Richards-Sanders. Blue also tossed a convenience store cup of gasoline on a man at her apartment and set him on fire in the same attack. The man survived serious burns to testify against Blue at his Brazos County trial.
Attorneys for the 48-year-old Blue are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to delay the punishment after the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused a similar appeal late Wednesday.
The 48-year-old Blue's execution would be the first this year in Texas.
