CORPUS CHRISTI - Fire broke out Tuesday night at this house off Sarita Street, but investigators say this fire was no accident.
"Right now we are investigating this as an arson fire our preliminary information is that the female resident made statements to neighbors and relatives that she was going to set the house on fire," said Captain James Brown, Corpus Christi Fire Department.
The woman who lives across the street from the charred home says her neighbor came across the street Tuesday night, called family and friends to inform them that she planned to burn her own house down.
The neighbor says when the woman came over to her house she appeared to be upset-, saying her former boyfriend, who is also the landlord, had begun seeing her daughter.
According to Lee Reyna, the landlord, he did date his tenant about a year ago, but says he never dated her daughter. Reyna says his tenant has erratic behavior and was shocked but not surprised she was a suspect
"I hope the police catch up with her and gets other help more than just a conviction or an arrest," said Reyna.
Reyna did receive a voice mail from his tenant just before six last night, but he says the threat of fire was never made. Since then he has not had any contact with her.
The fire department and police are still working to determine who set the house on fire.
