KATY - Authorities say a teenager has died at a Houston-area hospital after he was shot while in a car with several other youths.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says Tuesday night's fatal shooting appears to be an accident. Investigators did not immediately release the name and age of the victim.
Authorities believe the boy was in the front passenger seat when he was struck by gunfire. The driver then drove the victim to a hospital in Katy.
Deputy Thomas Gilliland says emergency personnel were unable to save the wounded boy. Hospital officials notified the sheriff's office.
No charges were immediately filed. Investigators are expected to do gunshot residue tests on the hands of the other teenagers to determine who fired the weapon.
