CORPUS CHRISTI - An early morning shooting in Flour Bluff leads to a standoff, that ended with one woman in custody and alcohol may have been to blame.

Around 5:30 this morning in the 900 block of Admiral Drive, police finally arrested the woman involved in a standoff that started at 2:30 A.M.

47 year old Traci Fiala barricaded herself in her house after allegedly shooting her roommate, Perry Cooper.

Cooper says it all started after she came home from a nearby bar, "She's been dinking Chardonnay like a fish since early in the morning. She goes to the bar, comes back, and just loonie tunes."

According to Cooper, Fiala then grabbed a gun, "I told her to put the gun down. You don't need to shoot me or anything like that."

But Cooper says she did just the opposite, and pulled the trigger. The bullet grazed his left shoulder.

Cooper says, "She was screaming and hollering, you name it. Called me everything but a white boy. And then shot me."

That's when he called police.

When officers arrived, they say Fiala locked herself inside the house with the gun. The SWAT team was called out along with negotiators. But she still refused to come outside.

After a three hour standoff, SWAT threw tear gas into the home.

Fiala finally surrendered, unhurt. She was arrested and was charged with aggravated assault.

But polices work at the house was not done yet. It took quite a while to search for the suspected weapon because the gas was still strong.

So strong that almost 5 hours later at 10 this morning, police still needed gas masks to get inside the house.

Cooper says, "You go in there and it burns your nose right now."

Police were finally able to find the weapon. In fact they found several guns in the house.

Cooper did go to the hospital but refused treatment. He thinks it may be time to look for a new roommate.
