KINGSVILLE, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville junior Taylor Taska was recognized for his mound work the past week when he was named the Lone Star Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week. It was the third time this season Taska was named one of the LSC Players of the Week with the first two coming as a hitter.
Taska improved to 4-0 on the season as he was 2-0 on the week. The junior was credited with the win in the team's two victories this past week. He tossed six innings of shutout baseball on Tuesday in his first career start. Against the Dustdevils, he allowed two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
The junior, who set a then-school record with nine saves as a freshman, also earned the win in Sunday's series finale with ACU. He pitched the final 4-1/3 innings scattering four hits, striking out four and walking two.
Taska has gone the last 16-1/3 innings without allowing a run over his last six appearances. He allowed an earned run to ACU on Feb. 4 in the final game of the Astros in Action D2 Invitational in which he picked up his second win of the season.
