KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's indoor track and field team has ranked 24th in the nation in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll with several individuals ranked in the men's and women's events.
The men are ranked 24th with 39.80 points based on projections from last year's national meet combined with returnees. The men, who were 14th in the nation a year ago, had multiple athletes individually ranked. The women, while not ranked as a team in the preseason, have two ranked individuals.
For the men, senior Anthony Washington is ranked individually 17th and 23rd in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, respectively. Jonathan Woodson, who is recovering from a knee injury suffered in football, is currently ranked second after winning the national title in the 200-meter dash a year ago. Junior C.J. Griggs is fourth in the triple jump. The men's 4x400 relay is rated 13th.
For the women, senior Samantha Alvarez is 13th in the preseason high jump poll. Amber Perry, a sophomore, is ranked 27th in the 400-meter dash.
The Javelinas open their 2013 indoor campaign on Saturday in Lubbock at Texas Tech.
