KINGSVILLE - Today Texas Military Forces, Kingsville Police, Kingsville Fire Department and many more set up a command center on the Javelina campus to practice what they would do if there was ever a bomb scare on the university's grounds.

"There have been bomb threats all over the country recently," said Senior Vice President for Fiscal and Student Affairs, Terisa Riley, "and our campus just wants to practice what we would do in the event that there was one here."

The drill meant pulling out all the stops; from bomb-detecting equipment to full hazmat gear, Texas Military Forces went through every step they normally would as if there was a real bomb threat on campus.

The drill was a real as it get; the university sent out text messages to students letting them know what happened and released updates throughout the day as the drill continued.

Students who got the alert seemed comforted that their school is relying on emergency preparation rather than counting on last minute luck to pull them through a potential crisis.

"If anything happens on the school you have to be prepared for it," said university student Matthew Rhodes. "If you're not prepared then anything bad can happen. So at least we're going to be prepared and ready if something does happen."

"I feel safer when it actually does happen," said another student, Carl Contreras, "because they actually know what they're doing and they're actually training for this."

While university officials hope they never have exercise their emergency management plan, they say there are no lengths that they wouldn't go to to ensure the safety of their students.
