HOUSTON - Investigators in Houston say an SUV driver has died and seven people were hurt after the vehicle hit a parked ambulance that was picking up a patient.
Authorities say the patient and a relative plus five emergency responders were injured in the wreck early Monday.
Houston Fire Department spokesman Jay Evans says the SUV struck the ambulance head-on. Evans says the patient was in the back of the ambulance and the relative was in the front seat. Both were transported to hospitals, along with the five injured emergency personnel.
Further details on their conditions weren't immediately available. Authorities did not provide details on the original ailment of the patient picked up at a nearby home.
The name of the SUV driver who died wasn't immediately released.
