CORPUS CHRISTI - Two Corpus Christi police officers resigned on Tuesday before investigators could finish digging into allegations of off-duty misconduct.
Chief Floyd Simpson today confirmed with KRIS 6 that officers Bryan Cantu and Spencer Christian, both recent graduates of the Police Academy, had accepted Cantu and Spencer's resignation letter.
"It's a given that we hire people with high expectations and once you put the badge on, there's a higher expectation that your conduct on and off duty will be above reproach," he said.
KRIS first reported the suspensions last week after the department suspended Cantu pending an investigation into an incident involving his girlfriend. Christian was suspended after being arrested in Dallas on an assault charge.
A third member of Cantu and Christian's academy class also resigned, he said, but for non-related reasons.
He said the resignation ends the internal investigations and would not go into details.
"They submitted letters of resignation, I accepted and that's the end of that," Simpson said.
