CORPUS CHRISTI - A man and woman plead guilty this morning for their roles in the killing of an elderly Corpus Christi man.
In the fall of 2012, 67-year-old Felipe Martinez was found beaten in his home on Violeta Court. It was his home health care provider who made the discovery, but she had no idea who attacked Martinez.
His son told KRIS 6 News that just before he died at the hospital, his father was able to tell him what happened. He said a woman knocked on his father's door begging for help. Martinez let her in, but he was attacked by someone else.
Corpus Christi police arrested a man and a woman in the neighborhood several days after the attack.
This morning, Antonio Arredondo was given a 30-year-sentence for murder. His co-defendant, Esmerelda Benavides was given a 10 year sentence for murder.
As part of the plea deal the charges of burglary and theft were dismissed.
The victim's family was in court this morning for the hearing and stated they agreed with the terms of the plea deal.
David Martinez spoke to both defendants during the hearing today. "Some choices... there's consequences... that last (an) hour and that last (a) minute. That you both tried to make a choice impacted not only your life but our lives, generations. My father was a good father. No one deserves what he went through."
