SINTON -- A family had a huge scare overnight after a man suspected of drunk driving crashed into the side of their home. Residents who live there say the incident was shocking.

"I said 'oh my God' I can't even imagine a car came this far, it's cracked all in there," Dora Arredondo said.

Dora lives in the home with her family, including her two granddaughters who are ages 7 and 10. They were both sound asleep in the bedroom.

"If you notice it's holding up this piece of window thing, there, you can literally see inside the house," Dora said.

She says she heard a loud noise come from the room around 3:30 in the morning and when she ran into the bedroom she couldn't believe what she saw.

"I came to look and halfway through the room I noticed there were lights right at the window and it was a car in my granddaughter's window," Dora said.

She explained that a sliver Ford Focus had crashed into the wall, smashing the frame and crushing the brick. Dora believes the driver blew through the stop sign, hit the street sign in her yard, then took out the mail box and Christmas tree in her front yard.

"My mailbox doesn't exist anymore. I had called 9-1-1 and they had asked me if there was anyone in the vehicle and there wasn't, they had taken off," Dora said.

Police say Daniel Duarte didn't get far. He lives just a couple doors down from Dora and had fled the accident just seconds after it happened. Officers did arrest him at his home and charged him with DWI.

Meanwhile, Dora and her family are left to clean up the debris including a beer can that she says fell out of the driver's car. Plus, the cost of the damage that was done to the home, Dora says she's not sure how it's going to be paid for.

"We're still not sure how that is, to my knowledge I believe the insurance just lasped a few weeks ago at the end of December or soemthing around there is what were told," Dora said.

She is happy no one was injured and thankful her husband and a friend could temporarily board up the home with plywood.
