Suspect in Police Shootout Released from Hospital

CORPUS CHRISTI - The suspect in the shooting of 2 Corpus Christi police officers is out of the hospital following treatment for a gunshot wound to his chest.

Travis Magill was slowly brought into the city detention center in a wheelchair. He still has a cast on his leg.

Last week, two officers went to check out a man acting odd on Congressional Drive. According to police, Magill quickly pulled out a pistol and shot both officers. Magill was hit when the officers returned fire. Other officers caught up with him down the road when he crashed a stolen police Tahoe into a utility pole.

The CCPD command staff credits Sr. Officer Amador Gonzalez with saving the life of Sr. Officer Michael Scott Goodman's. He made sure a tourniquet was in place for his colleague before tending to his own wounds.

Magill faces two counts of attempted capital murder on a peace officer and auto theft.
