BEE COUNTY - It's been just over a year since Reshay Rodgers experienced a horrific event that flipped her world upside down. "I can tell you every single detail of what happened september 30th of last year," Rodgers recalled.

It was a Friday morning around 8:30. Reshay Rodgers was drinking coffee and eating breakfast with her parents and 15-month-old daughter when her estranged husband, 30-year old Billy Lowe, unexpectedly showed up at the door. Her dad, 52-year-old Kennie Rodgers went outside to talk to him.
"It was a matter of seconds," she said. "I just remember hearing shots."

The events that followed are hard to imagine. Lowe entered the home and shot Rodgers four times; once in the leg, twice in the chest and one final shot which shattered her jaw. As he left the room searching for her mother, 49-year-old Retha Rodgers, he didn't realize Rodgers was still alive.
"Something told me to get up and I did," Rodgers said, "and I ran."

Running up her driveway and down the street, Rodgers reached her neighbors house where they called police. Her decision to run is perhaps what saved her life. The shooting took the life of both Rodgers' parents that morning. Today, a year after the tragedy, it's just Rodgers and her daughter, Layel.
"She was everything," she said, "I honestly believe that if it wasn't for Layel that I wouldn't be here today."

Rodgers and her daughter live in the same house her parents once owned but with a positive outlook on the past. "There were a lot of good memories at this place that we all shared and I'm not going to let one bad day take away all those good memories."

Rodgers says it's the memories of her parents and inspiration of her daughter and faith in God that encourage her to move on. Rodgers said, "If God allowed me to survive then I've got to do something with my life."

Reshay Rodgers says she's had three surgeries to her jaw since the accident and has more to come. If you would like to help with her growing medical expenses visit or call the New Life Baptist Church at 2106 Jones Rd. Beeville, Tx and ask about the Reshay Rodgers Fund.
