CORPUS CHRISTI - Students had a chance to show off their best dance moves, all while learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. It's all part of HEB's program to teach kids how to eat right and be healthy.
Zavala Elementary School students clapped their hands and tapped their feet to the beat of "Happy."
The event was held Tuesday to educate the kids about good habits when it comes to snacks and exercise.
"To teach the kids about portion control, how to eat healthy and with nutrition," Minnie Munoz said.
Minnie Munoz with Emmanuel Christian Fellowship, says it's important to teach our children about the importance of fruits, veggies and staying fit at an early age. Students like Danika got the message loud and clear.
"They help your body move and exercise, you have to eat food," Danika said.
HEB and ECF chose to work with Zavala because of its large number of students.
"They have close to 900 children at this school," Minnie added.
Plenty of the students were keeping to the rhythm of the music and got to enjoy a skit. When they were done, the students were given a HEB goody bag with a banana, an apple and a plate that demonstrates portion sizes. The kids also were given a book on nutrition.
The meal plans at Zavala Elementary School follow FDA guidelines. HEB says the event was to emphasize the importance of healthy habits once the kids go home.
