CORPUS CHRISTI - Strong wind gusts early Sunday morning caused major problems around the Coastal Bend. Wind gusts blew the awning right off it's hinges at a Stripes gas station on Rodd Field Road near Holly.
They say corrosion and strong winds caused the canopy to collapse.
Officials say they got a call about the canopy crashing down around 7:30 this morning. Luckily it didn't hurt anyone when the cover came tumbling down. When some piping broke off it exposed hot wires so crews brought in a crane to safely move the giant piece of canopy out of the way.
"It took about a couple hours," said Paul Munoz, "the wind was the biggest factor and it was hard to get it moving in the right direction, you know, we'd move a foot forward and it would move us back a half a foot."
