Stove Fire Causes Heavy Damage in Island Home

CORPUS CHRISTI - Fire investigators say a electrical spark near a kitchen stove caused a house to catch fire Monday morning out on the island. Neighbors who live on the 14-thousand block of Indigo say, smoke pouring from the roof of the home next door. One man called 911.

Fire crews quickly showed up but by then much of the interior of the home had been damaged. No one was home at the time. Neighbors say it's the summer home of a man who currently is in Arizona. The neighbors are planning to keep an eye on the house until the owner returns.

"I'm kind of in shock too but you know there's obviously a lot of damage but you know that's why we all have insurance and hopefully somebody will get over here, and we'll get it all boarded up and secure for him," one resident said.

The homeowner is an avid wind surfer in the coastal bend and was relieved to hear that none of his equipment was damaged.
