CORPUS CHRISTI - A store owner was charged with the murder of a man police say stole some beer from his business Saturday night.
Police say Rodney Duve, 51, shot the 39-year old robbery suspect in the doorway of Duve's Quick Stop in the 2000 block of South Staples.
A nearby neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he knows Duve and is a regular at the store.
"He didn't have to shoot the person for two cases of beer. A life doesn't equal two cases of beer," he said.
Duve's neighbor of several years says he is a nice man and hard worker - who was in a difficult situation.
"I probably would've done the same thing. It's one of those things where how many times can you be pushed until you fight back. Everybody has their limit."
Police have not said whether the robbery suspect had targeted Duve before, or if Duve had a history of being robbed.
