BROWNSVILLE (KVEO) - Thousands of Texas trucks are stolen and cross the border into Mexico yearly. Most of them are never recovered, but one that was found recently came back with some surprising upgrades.
The Chevy truck left factory standard and came back as a machine of heavy steel.
"It was used for, what you might say illicit activities. I don't know anybody that drives around in a tank," says Officer Jose Trevino of the Brownsville Police Department.
Officer Trevino says its very likely that this armor reinforced truck, equipped with bullet proof glass windows, was transformed by a drug cartel.
The sliding armored panels, in all the windows, also allows for the occupants to fire their weapons safely from inside, but the reinforcement goes far deeper than what meets the eye.
