ODEM -- The San Patricio County Sheriff's Department on Monday confirmed that it has asked the Texas State Comptroller's office to investigate two businesses it suspects may be illegal gambling operations.
The businesses, both located on Highway 77, have no signage and black paper covers the doors and windows. No one answered at either of the businesses despite several vehicles being in the parking lot.
Sheriff Leroy Moody forced all illegal game rooms to shut down earlier this year. It is illegal in the state of Texas for game rooms to distribute cash prizes; only non-monetary prizes are allowed.
The sheriff's office said it is waiting for the report from the state investigator before it decides what to do next.
