CORPUS CHRISTI - Residents on Whitaker Drive are furious that nothing is being done about a string of burglaries in their neighborhood. So far, five homes have been hit and some neighbors claim to know who is responsible, but say police aren't doing anything about it.
Richard Mcdougal calls himself the neighborhood's handyman.
"People come by and borrow my tools all the time," he told me.
But that is now over, after Mcdougal claims he was burglarized by a man he considered a "decent guy."
"I tried to help him out, loan him money for his kids and everything. I got no use for the guy. Now I really have no use for him since he stole my property, I don't have no use at all for him," Richard said.
Mcdougal says the person he *thinks* stole nearly $3,000 worth of tools from his garage, lives just down the street and has been over a few times to borrow money and his phone. Now, he thinks the man was just casing the joint, in search for an easy score.
"Went in the house and stole two sets of tool boxes out of the house and some tools and the bad part of it is, he even had the gall to steal some of my clothes. I mean, he's a real (expletive)," said Mcdougal.
But Richard wasn't the only one targeted.
Skylar Woodring lives across the street from Richard and she too has been burglarized.
She told us she believes the same man is responsible for taking several thousand dollars worth of jewelry and electronics from her home last week.
"Everything is gone, you know? And it's ridiculous," she said.
Skylar says other neighbors have told her they saw the man walking down the street with what looked like her television.
Richard and Skylar both tell me they contacted the police right after the thefts, but say detectives are giving them the run-around.
"Investigator come over and blatantly tell me that there was nothing they could do, because no one saw him with your items. I was like excuse me, I have witnesses. He told me, did they see the serial number," Skylar told me.
I called the detective Skylar is talking about and all he would say is that the investigation is ongoing.
