BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison in the death of a man kidnapped from a Brownsville restaurant during the lunch hour.
The Brownsville Herald reports 25-year-old Abraham Parra of Laredo was convicted Thursday of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping in the death of 22-year-old Reyes Bocanegra in July 2012. Parra received an automatic sentence of life without parole on the capital murder charge and 50 years in prison for aggravated kidnapping.
Parra is one of nine men charged in the abduction and death of Bocanegra. He's the first to go on trial.
During the kidnapping, customers and staff at the restaurant were tied up. A short time later, Bocanegra's body was found about 10 miles way with a bullet wound in the back of his head.
