South Texas Man Charged In Infant Son's Drowning

EDINBURG - A South Texas man is jailed on a manslaughter charge after his infant son was found drowned in a canal.

Officials say 21-year-old Enrique Medina was drunk when he lost track of 2-month-old Enrique Medina Jr. after the vehicle in which they were riding crashed near Edinburg. The crash killed the child's uncle, 21-year-old David Lopez, who was at the wheel, and injured the child's mother. The infant's body wasn't found in a canal until more than 24 hours later.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said all three adults in the vehicle were drunk when the crash happened. He said the mother handed the father the child and asked him to get help. As Medina wandered in the dark early Sunday, he slipped into a canal and lost the child.
