CORPUS CHRISTI - "We're busy, we're very busy," Alfredo Cardenas says.
He is the editor of the South Texas Catholic magazine. It's his job to have his finger on the pulse of what is important to the 1/2 million catholics in the coastal bend.
"We've been updating the website this morning, we've been downloading stories from the Catholic News Service", Cardenas shares.
Today the staff at the magazine is covering the biggest breaking news for catholics in years: the election of the new Pope Francis.
"It's humbling. Taking our cue from Pope Francis, we work, we are here to serve," Cardenas says.
The monthly publication goes to 46,000 households, in 100 parishes in 12 counties- including 30 catholic schools.
The organization has been around since 1966. But the one coming up is very special and is a big deal.
And it's an edition with news that Cardenas is very excited to share with his fellow followers of Christ.
"I'm excited about the new pope. I think that we have been blessed," Cardenas says.
The expanded pope edition of the magazine will be about one week late this month... but the mission remains the same.
"We are basically the voice of the church in this small corner of the lord's Pasture," Cardenas says.
