LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team fell to Northern Colorado 8-3, but bounced back in the second game to win 5-0 over New Mexico State on Friday at the Troy Cox Classic at NMSU Softball Complex. Dani Tefft went a combined 4-for-6 to ignite the Islanders' offense today.
The Islanders (2-4) will face Texas Tech Saturday at 9 a.m. MST before taking on Weber State at 1:30 p.m. MST.

GAME 1: NORTHERN COLORADO 8, TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 3
A five-run top of the first propelled Northern Colorado to an 8-3 victory over A&M - Corpus Christi in the first of five games in the Troy Cox Classic. Tefft went 2-for-3 to lead the Islanders' bats while Brittney Morse recorded her third double of her career.
The Bears (2-5) got on board early with five runs on five hits in the opening frame. Melissa Mrcvccho hit a leadoff single and scored on a home run over the left field wall by Mikayla Duffy. Megan Wilkinson followed suit with a homer over the right field wall to score the Bears' third run of the inning. Nicole Hudson walked before landing on second on a Molly Ryan single through the left side. Adeline Coldiron followed with a two-run double to put the Bears up 5-0.
After Northern Colorado added a run in the top of the fourth A&M - Corpus Christi got on board in the bottom of the frame. Morse started the inning with a double down the right field line and advanced to third on a J.J. Jackson sacrifice bunt. Lindsey Lyles then hit a RBI ground out to score Morse and put the Islanders on the board.
The Islanders pulled within three in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs on three hits. Tefft started the rally with a single through the right side and scored on a RBI single by Mickayla Cochran. Mackinzee Griebel followed suit with a single to right field and plated the Islanders' third run of the game after Morse hit a RBI sacrifice fly.
The Bears tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run by Wilkinson.
Along with Tefft's two hits, Griebel, Cochran, Morse, Jackson and Hayley Galloway all collected one hit apiece.
Constance Brandenburg (0-2) took the loss for the Islanders in the circle. The senior allowed 12 hits, eight runs while walking four in seven innings.
Wilkinson (2-2) earned the victory for the Bears. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs while walking one and striking out one in seven innings.
GAME 2: TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 5, NEW MEXICO STATE 0
The Islanders' bats came out strong and freshman Liz Carter pitched a solid seven innings to help the Islanders shut out New Mexico State 5-0. The Islanders outhit the Aggies 9-4 and Carter and Tefft powered the offense with two hits apiece.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Islanders posted the first run of the game in the top of the third. With one out, Carter tallied her first career hit of the game through the middle and advanced to second on a single to right field by Tefft. Griebel then reached on an error to score Carter and give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
The Islanders' bats kept on rolling with two-runs in the top of the fourth. Valerie Perez ripped her second double of the season to lead off the inning before Jackson cranked her second career home run over the center field wall to score Perez and extend the lead to 3-0.
After Carter registered her second strikeout of the game in the fourth to end the inning, Tefft opened the top of the fifth with a single to the pitcher. After a double play by the Aggies, Cochran stepped to the plate and drilled her sixth career homer and second one this season for the Islanders' fourth run of the game. Morse followed with a single to right field but a ground out by Perez capped the inning.
The Islanders added another run in the sixth after Lyles hit a single to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Galloway. With two outs, Carter blasted her second hit of the game down the left field line to plate Jessica Mendez who came in to pinch run for Lyles. The Aggies pulled out of the inning with a ground out by Tefft.
Carter and Tefft both went 2-for-3 while Cochran, Morse, Perez, Jackson and Lyles each tallied one hit apiece for the Islanders' offense.
Carter (2-1) picked up her second victory of the season. The freshman limited the Aggies to just four hits while walking five and striking out two in seven innings.
Celisha Walker (0-2) took the loss for New Mexico State. She allowed four hits and two earned runs in three innings.
