CORPUS CHRISTI - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team dropped a pair of losses today to McNeese State in a Southland Conference doubleheader at Chapman Field. The Cowgirls (20-9, 6-2 SLC) scored in the first two innings before a run in the fifth and seventh frames lifted them to a 6-1 victory in the first game. The Islanders (7-22, 2-6 SLC) fell behind early in the second game before costly errors and 12 hits sealed a 6-1 win for McNeese State.
The Islanders and Cowgirls will wrap the series Sunday at 12 p.m. in the annual Strikeout Breast Cancer Pink Game.

GAME 1: MCNEESE STATE 6, TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 1
The Cowgirls scored in the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead. In the opening frame McNeese State scored a run after Ashley Modzelewski hit a RBI single to left field to score Alanna DiVittorio, who reached on an infield single. In the top of the second, the Cowgirls extended their lead after plating three runs on one hit and an Islanders' fielding error. With two outs, DiVittorio ripped a two-run single to score Kim Kennedy and Katie Roux, who both reached on a walk.
A&M - Corpus Christi answered with a run in the bottom of the third on two hits. Brittney Morse led off the frame with her sixth home run of the season with a solo shot over the left center wall. After a strikeout, Valerie Perez drilled her seventh double of the season and 17th of her career down the left field line. The Cowgirls however pulled out of the inning after a line out and strikeout.
McNeese State added a run in the fifth and seventh frames after Modzelewski hit home runs in each of the innings.
Morse, Perez and Dani Tefft collected one hit apiece in the loss.
Liz Carter (6-10) suffered the loss for the Islanders in the circle. The freshman allowed eight hits, six runs, five of them earned, while walking four in six innings. Katie Blanar came in relief in the top of the seventh and allowed one hit and one walk.
Jamie Allred (12-4) picked up the win in the Cowgirls circle. She limited the Islanders to three hits, and one run, while walking one and striking out eight in seven innings.
GAME 2: MCNEESE STATE 6, TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 1
The Cowgirls tallied 12 hits and capitalized on five Islanders' errors to win the second game, 6-1. In the top of the first with one out, Ashley Modzelewski hit a double to left center to score Lauren Langner, who reached on a single through the middle. The Cowgirls then scored three runs on four hits and one Islanders' fielding error in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead. Alanna DiVittorio and Langner hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. After Langner stole second, Modzelewski hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score DiVittorio. After a line out by Taylor Goree to Hayley Galloway at second, Katie Roux collected a RBI double to right field to plate Langner. With two outs, Tori Yanitor reached on an Islanders' fielding error before Dakota Matiko tallied the Cowgirls' four hit of the inning with a RBI single through the middle to score Roux. The Islanders escaped the inning after Jessica Mendez snagged the line out in right field.
The Islanders rallied back with a run in the bottom of the third on one hit and one Cowgirls' fielding error. Galloway reached on a fielding error by shortstop before Brittney Morse nailed her sixth double of the season with a shot to left field. Galloway landed on third before scoring on a passed ball.
In the top of the fourth, McNeese State added a pair of runs on a hit and two errors. Marisa Taunton reached on a fielding error before DiVittorio walked to put Cowgirls on first and second. After a sacrifice bunt by Langner advanced the runners to second and third, Modzelewski hit a single before advancing to third on an Islanders' throwing error and Divittorio and Taunton scored on the play.
Lindsey Lyles, Mackinzee Griebel, Liz Carter, Morse and Galloway each registered one hit apiece in the loss.
Constance Brandenburg (0-9) took the loss for the Islanders in the circle. The senior allowed 12 hits and six runs, five of them earned, while walking four in seven innings.
Rachel Smith (5-2) picked up the win for the Cowgirls. She allowed four hits and one run, while walking two and striking out four in six innings. Emily Vincent secured the save in one inning.
