ABILENE, Texas - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team dropped a pair of Southland Conference games today to Abilene Christian at Poly Wells Field. The Islanders fell 5-0 to the Wildcats in the first game before nine hits by ACU lifted the home team to a 9-1 win in the second game.
The Islanders (7-26, 2-9 SLC) and Wildcats (14-18, 3-2 SLC) will conclude the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

GAME 1: ABILENE CHRISTIAN 5, TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 0
After a pitchers' duel in the first two innings, the Wildcats got on board first in the bottom of the third with three runs on four hits to take a 3-0 lead. Islanders' hurler Liz Carter retired the first six Wildcats before Kyla Simmons recorded the first hit of the game with a single through the right side. Kaylee Crozier advanced Simmons to second on a sacrifice bunt before Valerie Perez snagged the second out of the frame at shortstop. Paige Stevens followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners for the Wildcats before Taylor Brown hit a two-run triple to left field to put Abilene Christian on the board. Lyndi Smith then hit a RBI single to right field to plate Brown for the third run of the inning. Carter pulled the Islanders out with her third punch-out of the game.
Brittney Morse tallied the Islanders first hit of the game in the top of the fourth with one out. The freshman cranked her seventh double of the season with a shot to center field. Valerie Perez followed with a line out before Carter hit a fly out to right field to end the frame.
The Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth frames to take a 5-0 lead. Madison Buckley scored on a RBI single by Simmons through the middle in the bottom of the fourth before Stevens scored on a RBI double to right field by Courtney Flanary in the bottom of the fifth.
Dani Tefft registered the Islanders second hit of the game in the top of the sixth with an infield single, but a pop fly double play and a strikeout ended the threat.
Carter (6-13) took the loss for the Islanders in six innings. The freshman allowed seven hits and five runs while matching a career-high six strikeouts.
Hannah Null (8-6) picked up the win for the Wildcats. She limited the Islanders to two hits and one walk while striking out 10 in seven innings.
GAME 2: ABILENE CHRISTIAN 9, TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI 1 (5 INNINGS)
The Wildcats carried over their momentum into the second game to secure a 9-1 victory in five innings. ACU built an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after plating three runs on three hits. Courtney Flanary hit a two-run home run over the center field wall with two outs before Madison Buckley scored on a RBI single by Kyla Simmons.
ACU extended their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the second with four runs on five hits and a pair of Islanders' errors. After a leadoff ground out, Stevens scored on a RBI double by Taylor Brown after reaching on an Islanders' fielding error. Flanary and Buckley then hit back-to-back RBI singles to score Brown and Lyndi Smith, who reached on an infield single. The Wildcats plated their fourth run of the frame after Simmons hit a RBI single to center field to score Flanary.
Freshman Katie Blanar then replaced Constance Brandenburg in the Islanders' circle with one out. The lefty retired the next nine Wildcats until an error and a two-run home run by Cara Hoover ended the game in the bottom of the fifth.
The Islanders tallied three doubles in the loss with Dani Tefft, Lindsey Lyles and Michelle Sorenson all collecting one each. Tefft earned her second of the season with a leadoff shot down the right field line in the top of the fourth. Lyles then ripped her third of the season to left center in the top of the fifth before Sorenson followed suit with her second of the season to score Lyles and put the Islanders on the board.
Brandenburg (0-10) registered the loss for the Islanders in the circle. The senior allowed eight hits, seven runs, two of them earned, while walking one and striking out two in 1.1 innings. Blanar limited the Wildcats to just one hit and one earned run while striking out one in three innings.
Peyton Mosley (4-9) earned the win for the Wildcats in five innings. She held the Islanders to just three hits and one run while striking out three.
