CORPUS CHRISTI - There's a quite a mess behind Hamlin Shopping Center as crews work on cleaning up a snapped utility pole, punctured gas line and busted transformers.
Fire crews were first called out to the area for a couple of people trapped in an elevator behind the shopping center. They soon realized there was a potential fire risk, so everyone was evacuated. No one was injured and there never was a fire.
It appears the pole is rotted at the bottom and just finally gave way. Gas service and power are out to the immediate area. There are no reports of any homes without power in the surrounding area.
